Get Him to that Church on Time
Posted on June 3rd, 2010 | by Rohan |Am safely arrived in Manchester and booked into the gorgeous Marriott Worsley Park Hotel & Country Club. Tomorrow will be the highlight of an emotional and highly contemplative week, which will conclude with the marriage of two very special friends, Dilshan and Jayne.
I have already this week turned a corner, one which now sees me mathematically closer to the age of 40 than 30!! It came with an almost immediate reminder too … I was required to fill out a form on Tuesday morning, some 8 or so hours into my birthday, and was immediately presented with 2 boxes, one of which said 24-35, the other saying 35+! I was surprised at my awareness as I immediately ticked the latter box!

I must however take this opportunity to thanks all of my friends, old and new, for the huge pile of cards and messages, which was truly humbling.
In terms of humility, tomorrow will rank highly on the list. I was incredibly privileged when asked by Dilshan to perform Best Man duties, and I know that Dani was equally thrilled when Jane assigned her the task of being Maid of Honour.
Of course, Dani will not be with us tomorrow, and whilst there are sure to be reflections, this will not deter from a wonderful occasion.
The actress, Helen Gahagan, once said that “when a marriage works, nothing on earth can take its place.”
When a marriage works, nothing on earth can take its place.
This is a marriage that will work perfectly, which is why I do not feel the need to wish ‘best of luck’, but only that health, prosperity and the Grace of God be with them on their special journey.
The ring is safely secured, the speech is complete, and the groom is down in the hotel bar with some friends … which is my cue to end this muse and join him for a beverage!
But before I go, I leave you and Dilshan with one of those timeless songs, which also remind me of my duties as Best Man
Don’t worry Sergeant Dilko, you’ll be at the Church in plenty of time!!
